A brand new venture dedicated to promoting awareness about the culture of tequila for industry professionals in USA and Mexico.
Our mission
The Tequila Interchange Project is a network of professionals engaged in promoting the education of the culture of tequila in their local communities and abroad. We strive to create a highway of knowledge between teachers, workers, and connoisseurs of the culture of tequila, from the agave fields in Mexico to the cocktail bars across the USA. We are a network of connections and partnerships. We are both professor and pupil. We are the bridge of communication towards the future of tradition for tequila culture.
What we do
TIP selects a group of highly regarded and talented bartenders and mixologist and invites them to Mexico’s tequila region for a first hand tour of the terroir and appellation of origin. TIP is currently engaged with a group of influential professors from multiple academic institutions that are guiding us through the distinct areas of the culture of tequila. They share and help us understand, from their academic perspective, what old, new and exciting discoveries lay in each region and what it potentially means for the industry.
The trip begins by taking a selected group bartenders and mixologists to visit the different terroirs within the appellation of origin in Jalisco. Exploring the Highlands and the Lowlands regions, getting to see and experience in person what each region brings to the production of Tequila. The tour objective is to challenge each bartender's and mixologist's knowledge by having the regions tour guided by university professors, producers and even jimadores, to get an overall perspective of the tequila culture.
TIP also hopes to bridge the connection between USA and Mexico regarding mixology and bar tending. We schedule a series of demonstrations at a local culinary institute in Guadalajara, where each individual has the chance to engage with students and share their knowledge and creativity. Finally, we engage the local community and its industry professionals by promoting tequila cocktail culture and having each individual share one of their tequila cocktail secrets! The concept is to show to the young and enthusiastic community in Guadalajara what is happening here in USA with tequila and mixology.
